The Pacific MMI Lewas were given a close scare beating the Cricket Without Borders(CWOB) team by two wickets Thursday morning in Japan. The Lewas again got off to the perfect start to the game when they knocked off the first four CWOB batters for a measly 20 runs. However, complacency in the Lewas bowlers allowed CWOB to fight back and survive the full 20 overs to post a target of 93.The Lewas were expensive, giving away 15 runs through extras. CWOB’s Lauren McLean top scored with 31 runs. The Lewas’ run chase began in disastrous fashion as openers Sibona Jimmy (0) and Tanya Ruma (5) were sent back in the opening overs of the game.More wickets fell for the Lewas who at one stage found themselves on the ropes at 5/42. However, tail enders Varoi Morea (21) and Veru Frank (10) steadied the ship and guided the Lewas to victory with two wickets to spare in the 16th over.In their second match in the afternoon, 4 wickets from Lewas’ Boni David ensured them victory over Samoa by 24 runs. The Lewas posted a low target of 99, however managed to make up with the ball thanks to some David magic that snared her 4 wickets at the cost of only 12 runs. The Lewas have a rest today which will give them time to prepare for their biggest challenge yet, to play Japan on Saturday morning.
