Justice Birnie Stephenson-Brooks (file photo)A fine of $200.00 will be imposed on five citizens who failed to appear in court for jury duty for the first trial in the May 2012 Criminal Assizes on Wednesday.The jurors did not answer to their names when called neither did they furnish the Court with any medical certificates or reasons for their absence.Justice Birnie Stephenson-Brooks who ordered that these jurors be fined $200.00 each sounded a note of caution to the other jurors who were present.She explained that jury service is “a very important thing” and that they should make an effort to inform the Court of their unavailability.“Make an effort to inform the Court if you are ill or late,” she urged or “if not I will find you”.Justice Stephenson-Brooks also reminded the jurors that they should be present at Court by at least 8:45am as Court proceedings commence at 9am.Court has been adjourned until Monday 14th May, 2012 when four matters are expected to be heard.They include the murder trial involving David St Jean, two wounding trials; one involving Royston and Chasrey Thomas and the other Marcus Augustus and a burglary trial involving Cornelius Francis.Dominica Vibes Newscenter_img Share Tweet Sharelast_img
