On Friday, Judge Morris Hoffman awarded the case’s defendants, including Castle Law and two related entities, another victory in awarding legal fees totaling $1.9 million as a result of the specified claims filed by the State which the Judge had found to be substantially frivolous and groundless claims.The Court awarded 100 percent of the fees that The Castle Law Group, Caren Castle, and Larry Castle requested, and indicated that the methodology used by Castle Law in applying for the fees was conservative. Here’s how the awarded fees broke down; defendants from the Castle Law Group were awarded $1,454,809 in fees. The case also involved two other defendant entities: Absolute Posting & Process Services, LLC, a posting company employed by the Castle Law Group; and Colorado American Title, LLC, (CAT) a title company employed by Castle Law. Judge Hoffman awarded the Absolute defendants $445,256 in fees and the CAT defendants $19,979 in fees.In his opinion Friday, Judge Hoffman cited the enormous amount of work the defendants had to put in while navigating the multiyear case. “Just organizing this ocean of discovery was a massive undertaking, let alone making sense of it and developing litigation strategies and tactics based on it. Defending this case required enormous commitments of time and extraordinary skill.”Larry Pozner, Partner at Reilly Pozner LLP and lead defense attorney in the case, exclusively told DS News, “Law firms who practice in the foreclosure space have enormous responsibilities to the lenders. The cases have to be done rapidly, right, repeatedly, and the law firms must do them at their own risk. The foreclosure law firms survive by providing excellence to the lending market, and excellence will always cost more than the cheapest alternative. How dare the state tell a law firm what quality it must hire or what sacrifices it should make to please the state. The clients were satisfied with the services they were receiving.”In State of Colorado v. The Castle Law Group, LLC, et al., Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman claimed that the defendants (which included not only the foreclosure law firm but also former partners Larry and Caren Castle) padded billings in order to take in millions in illegitimate profits from the banks they represented, as well as the affected homeowners and real estate investors who later bought the foreclosed houses at auction. In April 2017, Denver District Judge Morris Hoffman ruled against the state, arguing in a 92-page opinion that neither the Castles nor the other defendants took advantage of the position banks were in to move foreclosures quickly during the housing crisis.“These foreclosure law firms were not Wall Street firms with their own economic power,” Hoffman said at the time. “For the most part they were small, local firms specializing in foreclosures, whose very existence depended on the willingness of their clients to keep referring foreclosures to them. As a result, the lenders and servicers could, and did, dictate the terms they would accept from their foreclosure law firms, with virtually no negotiation.”The case reached its next fork in November 2017, when Judge Hoffman ordered the state of Colorado to pay the defendants’ legal fees, criticizing the state’s case and noting, “The evidence, or lack of evidence, at trial, was nothing short of breathtaking, especially compared to the investigative build-up and the serious and pervasive allegations in the complaint.”“The consumer fraud department of the Colorado AGs decided they knew better than the law firms who should be hired and what should be charged,” Pozner told DS News. “They put the Castle Firm out of business, they cost hundreds of people their jobs, and they wasted millions of dollars of taxpayer money. This communication is to outline information related to the compulsory transition to Touch Football Online. Days Remaining: 47 Touch Football Australia (TFA) as part of its Strategic Plan 2011-2015, has been reviewing requirements related to the registration of individual participants. TFA has a particular strategic objective to “Substantially increase participation to 500,000 verifiable and contactable members by 2015”, as first communicated in the TFA Membership Registration Procedure Memorandum, released May 2012. As the constituted national organisation for Touch Football, TFA has subsequent requirements for affiliated members as stipulated in the TFA Constitution. Clause 15 of the constitution outlines details about how an affiliate remains recognised by TFA and simple requirements to remain compliant. A copy of the full Constitution and Strategic Plan can be found on the TFA website –www.touchfootball.com.au. Importantly, relevant to this communication affiliated associations are obligated to keep a registration of all participants within the area or under its representation. This information of participants must be provided to TFA in a recognised national format on a regular basis. This recognised format will only be accepted via Online Registration as of Season 1, 2015. In addition to constitutional requirements, TFA needs this information as part of covering affiliates and individuals with insurance through the National Insurance Scheme. As a result of new changes in technology and societal pressure, TFA is in the process of transitioning to a national online registration system. Through a strategic partnership with FOX SPORTS PULSE (formerly SportingPulse), TFA has developed and released the Touch Football Online system (TFO) to be used by affiliates and the breadth of the Touch Football community. The TFO program is available for all recognised affiliates to converge to. Importantly, TFA aims to have all affiliates transition from paper registration processes to the new online system (TFO), by no later than Season 1 2015 (1 January, 2015). TFO helps affiliates maintain their organisation’s competitions and payments/financial details, but also track member data and facilitate more effective engagement and communication with members. Regardless of the size or scope of your affiliate, TFO can build new efficiencies into your business processes (e.g. vastly reduced paperwork), saving you time and enabling you to manage your competition information the most effective way. It is important to note that associations who are using the Sportzware Central program, that this program is being phased out and there will be no further development of this product, so it’s time for users to join TFO. TFA has invested in and are continuing to invest in communication, training and education of these changes, by making available the Touch Football webinars and learning resources for affiliates whom excel in transitioning to the new systems. We confirm our reality by sharing.” I am quoting this statement because I love it and it reminds me of all the inspirational women in the Birthing Project USA. While I was flying from New Orleans to San Diego for the National Birthing Project conference, I was very eager to meet, share experiences, network and create collaboration among all the amazing Birthing Project community around the world.They all are different in appearance and in professional background. Some of them are health professionals, some from a business background, some are professors/lecturers, but all have a shared vision which is to improve maternal and child health in their community.While they were presenting their projects, I noticed the way it was set up is different from one another. Every one of them is doing a project according to the needs of their community, which is why they had great achievement. Most of them are doing their projects with very minimal funds but they all successfully fit into the bigger picture (Birthing Project International).For me the very catching presentation was from Malawi by Ms. Lois Silo, who is the director of Malawi Birthing Project and country representative of Raising Malawi. As the 2008 UNICEF statistics the maternal mortality rate in Malawi was 807/100,000; in addition according to Save the Children in 2010 4624 women die every year and 13 women die every day due to pregnancy and delivery complications.The Birthing Project started working in one of the rural areas of Malawi called Mchinji one year ago. Ms. Lois Silo coordinated the traditional birth attendants as Sister Friends (community volunteers) to connect the pregnant ladies and health facilities during their pregnancy, labor and postpartum period since they were no longer allowed to deliver a baby.The traditional birth attendants also provide the pregnant mothers with regular follow-up by visits; they were provided with bicycles and cellphones to ease their work. Ms. Lois and the traditional birth attendants (sister friends) were doing their job effectively. At the end of the year, 185 babies were born and none of the babies and the mothers have died. If it were for the statistics a number of deaths were expected. All this great work was done with minimal funds (12,000 USD).I tell myself “we really can do it.” Being there with all those wonderful women and listening to their achievements gave me courage, hope and a belief that we can move forward. What we need is commitment, passion, patience and collaboration.Share this:

The community awareness sessions and TBA association meetings were routine, but my visa extension, getting a reentry visa for Nigeria and at the end of the month an uncertain response about getting my Ghana visa made the month of April restless for me.During the month we attended awareness sessions in the communities regarding healthy eating during pregnancy, the importance of keeping yourself clean during pregnancy, what kind of care is important during pregnancy, and where the right place is to get that care. We had meetings with the TBA associations regarding the training session because they had a few issues. They were insisting on having training sessions in a big hotel or a conference room rather than the office and community. There are still issues we are trying to deal with.The moment I got my reentry visa for Nigeria, I had firm hope that I would make it to Ghana, but then time Claire called me and said, “We tried a lot but seems like its not going to happen.” My reply was that I would keep my bag ready and hope that I would get it. I was so happy when Claire told me in the evening that they managed to get my Ghana visa. I am so thankful to all who struggled hard for my Ghana visa. I had mixed feelings, meeting everyone for the first time. I was a bit nervous, but the moment I saw the first Young Champion, Peris Wakesho, at Nigeria airport, I became relaxed. She was friendly and knowledgeable. Meeting everyone in Ghana was one of the best moments of my life.Overall the whole event was very well organized and everything was on time, hats off to Claire and Tiffany. Meeting Ann Blanc and Tim Thomas was a worthwhile experience where we had a chance to listen to them and share our experiences. Everything we experienced at the Ghana event was according to the needs of the Young Champions. Every presentation had at its core the benefit the Young Champions from every angle. Josaphine Nezrem and Kathryn Hall-Trujillo’s presentations inspired us by speaking about a way to keep ourselves strong, how to continue through the struggles, and how to make stronger bonds for pregnant women and nursing mothers. Hamadou Tidiane’s presentation on how to pitch your idea really helped me refine my idea. As a result, I was selected for the Maternal Health Buzz Conference. Alice Emasu, had a very inspiring presentation and she advised us to keep our self like clean water because then every organization will want to drink (work with) from us. Bright Simons, Nana Twum-Daso and Martha Murdock had inspring presentations on pharmaceutical consumer’s safety, management of a project and management of resources. At the end we got a chance to see Fred Sai “the father of maternal health.” He shared his life experiences with us and how he was drawn towards maternal health field. It was a very inspiring talk.Overall it was a memorable event. We met for five days, but received enough love from everyone to last a lifetime. Whenever I will be open my comments book I will never feel alone. In fact, I am reading the book now and I am feeling like we are a single family based in different regions of the world but our main goal is same “To bring some change, for the humanity and for the future healthy nations of this world. From UNFPA:Increasing women’s access to quality midwifery has become a focus of global efforts to realize the right of every woman to the best possible health care during pregnancy and childbirth. A first step is assessing the situation. The report provides new information and data gathered from 58 countries in all regions of the world. Its analysis confirms that the world lacks some 350,000 skilled midwives — 112,000 in the neediest 38 countries surveyed — to fully meet the needs of women around the world.
